Today, we’re featuring Laura from Craft Takeover! Her “stitchy home goods” include a beautiful range of fabric crafts using fun, floral designs like Rifle Paper Co. We love her potholders, oven mitts, and other handmade modern quilted home goods! We can’t wait to share her products and story with you today!
Hi Laura! Thanks for sharing your story with us today! Can you please tell us a little about yourself?
I live in Round Rock, TX with my husband, 2 little girls, and 2 kitties.
This past year has been a tough one. Can you share something good that has come out of this time?
Like most, I have spent a lot of time at home this year, and it has been challenging running my business with much more limited hours. I get most things done during nap times and after the kids are asleep! Though it can be tough to find a good balance, I’m glad that the kids and I have had this extra time together, and I’m proud that they get to see me working on my business and doing what I love.
Finding time to do it all is definitely a struggle, but it sounds like you’ve found a sweet way to share your passion with your girls! Tell us about Craft Takeover! What do you make and how long have you been doing it?
My business is called Craft Takeover, and it started as a DIY and craft blog in 2015 when my house was slowly being taken over by all my craft adventures. I especially love sewing (quilts, garments, you name it!), and you can find me in front of my sewing machine daily, whether it is for “work” or for fun. I am also an avid cook, so my love for sewing and spending time in the kitchen turned into a business when I started selling oven mitts and other home goods on Etsy in 2018. Along with oven mitts, you’ll find my potholders, key fobs, fabric stickers, and fabric gift tags at Mosaic.
It’s so great to hear how your business has grown and shifted through the years. We are so grateful you chose Mosaic Makers Collective to be a part of your journey! Why did you get involved with MMC?
It feels really special to see my work along with all the other amazing makers at Mosaic. I can see how hard all of these Texas women have worked on their individual businesses and unique products, and it is super fun and inspiring to see them all under one roof and be a part of it.
We’re so glad you’re a part of our community of makers! What is the most memorable response you’ve had to your work?
Recently one of my oven mitts was shown in the April 2021 Issue of HGTV Magazine, and that was a huge moment for me! I went and bought 5 copies at the bookstore 🙂
Congratulations! That’s a huge accomplishment! What’s the most recent show you binge-watched?
My husband and I recently re-watched every Marvel movie in timeline order!
It’s a great time for superhero movies! It was so fun learning about you today, and we are so thankful to have you as one of our makers!
