Sunflower Ceramic Studio LLC
Pottery inspired by the clinical nature of math and the joy of color.
I'm Maria Hernandez, the ceramic artist behind Sunflower Ceramic Studio.
I hold a BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics from Angelo State University. Since graduating, I have worked in both production studios and community classrooms. Currently I teach here in the Dallas area. I specialize in wheel throwing, which is how I make the majority of my pieces for your home and kitchen. Mathematics and its emphasis on reason shape how I approach a form, and I juxtapose that with impulsive and colorful emotion. This shows up in my work as precisely carved grids paired with an expressive use of bright underglaze.
Mugs, cups, bowls, and spoon rests are all handcrafted with great care in my Dallas area studio, from start to finish. Every item is food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. Due to the handmade nature of my work, slight variation in size and shape will occur from piece to piece.
