We’re continuing our Meet the Makers series with Julia Freeman, founder of The Avera Boutique. Right now, we are obsessed with her relatable enamel pins (like this Always Tired design), colorful greeting cards, and weekly organizer that is a must-have on any desk. We can’t wait to learn more about Julia and her business, and share The Avera Boutique with you!
Hi Julia! Thanks for sharing your story with us today. Can you tell everyone a little about yourself?
I’m a coffee drinking creative living in Friendswood, TX. Illustration, design, and photography are my main mediums but I tend to dabble and experiment in whatever I feel like.
It seems like those experiments paid off! We love the variety of products you offer and all of them are so cute! 2020 has been a tough year. Can you share something good that has come out of this time?
I took up sewing! Something I’ve been interested in but didn’t take the time to get my machine fixed or sit down and learn. Now I’m able to make new types of products!
That’s great! We’ll be watching for your sewing products in the shop! We’d love to know a little more about The Avera Boutique. What do you make and how long have you been in business?
I mostly make stationery products and enamel pins but there’s a smidge of other things sprinkled in. I started my business at the end of 2014 and it has evolved so much! I’ve really been focused on cultivating my style these past 2 years.
We love your style! What is the most memorable response you’ve had to your work?
The one that sticks with me is a review on my curly club pin that stated they wished there was cool curly girl stuff when she was younger and she might have felt differently about her really curly hair.
What a great response! We hope that friends and parents of curly girls take note and buy your curly club pins! What three words best describe your work?
Colorful, quirky, fun
That’s a perfect description! If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
There are so many places really… but if I could just choose one it would probably be Ireland. Talk about some beautiful countryside!
We could all use some beautiful countryside right now! Thanks so much for sharing The Avera Boutique with us, Julia– we’re so glad to have you as part of the Mosaic Makers Collective!
