Meet the Maker: Lawless Craft

Our Meet the Makers Series continues today with Jaclyn from Lawless Craft. With a name like Lawless, you may expect studs and leather… but you won’t find that here! Instead, you’ll fall in love with her whimsical Christmas ornaments and one-of-a-kind, handmade earrings. Did 2020 leave you with a house full of plant babies? Her geometric concrete planters are on every plant mom’s wishlist. Jaclyn is one of our newest makers, and we can’t wait to share Lawless Craft with you!

Hi Jaclyn! Thanks for sharing your story with us today. Can you tell everyone a little about yourself?

Hi! I’m Jaclyn Lawless, a fourth-generation Texan, a counselor, a maker, a wife, and a mom to three sweet littles + a schnoodle pup! When I can find the time, I love working with my hands! My favorite mediums lately are clay, concrete, and knits. Besides crafting, I love to curl up with a good book and a cup of coffee!

You are a woman of so many talents and we love the way you create products using various mediums! 2020 was a tough year. Can you share something good that has come out of this time?

Believe it or not, Lawless Craft started in 2020, less than a year ago! When my family of 5 was quarantined in the spring, I started making small batches of soap and candles to enjoy at home, just as a hobby, to keep my hands busy. I shared my products with family and friends, and eventually got into working with other materials like clay, concrete, and macrame. Over the summer, I turned my little side hobbies into an official LLC. Since then, I launched an Etsy shop and so far, I’ve shipped to 29 states! I have also done some local market events and offered my products at a few shops, like Mosaic. What a crazy year!

Congratulations! What a great thing to come out of 2020! Tell us about Lawless Craft! What do you make and how long have you been doing it?

People are always curious about the name: Lawless Craft. I wasn’t trying to be edgy, it’s just my last name! I work with everything from clay and concrete to soap and yarn. I love to try new materials, so the items I offer are always changing.

It’s a great name for a business! Why did you get involved with MMC?

I took a chance and sent a casual DM to the Mosaic Instagram account one day, last October. I love what MMC is doing for female creatives in Texas and I wanted to be a part of it all. Who wouldn’t want to be included in this collection of inspiring women?? I have met the most remarkable artists and I feel so supported and lifted by them.

We’re so glad you slid into our DMs and we’re glad to have you as part of our community! What are you most proud of?

I’m thrilled to donate a significant amount of proceeds to local nonprofits. 20% of all 2020 sales supported Mission Arlington and Metroplex Women’s Clinic. I also offer discounts to educators and frontline workers. I believe that we should all use our skills to impact our communities. Every step in that direction makes a difference!

What a beautiful way to make a difference. Aside from visiting MMC, what’s your favorite thing to do in Bishop Arts District?

I love to enjoy the patio at Eno’s. White wine, bruschetta, and people watching! Three of my favorite things!

We love Eno’s, too. It’s a great place for people-watching! Thanks so much for sharing the story of Lawless Craft with us. We’re so glad to have you as part of the Mosaic Makers Collective!
