Hi JM! Thanks for sharing your story with us today! Can you please tell us little bit about yourself?
My name is Jean-Marie, I go by JM, and I’m a creative from Southern California. I’ve been in Dallas for almost 9 years and live and work in Deep Ellum. I’m a hair and makeup artist, painter and lip stain creator. I love to travel, drink coffee and take photos. I’m a history and art buff and am a Junior Associate member at the DMA. My dog’s name is Yoshimi, and she goes mostly everywhere with me!

Your lip stains are an absolute work of art! What are you most excited about for the future?
Growth! Releasing more stain colors, making more art and making new friends
Those sound like some pretty great goals to us! Tell us about your business— what do you make and how long have you been doing it?
My business is called JM Style House. I started JMSH in California in 2010. My vision was to build a business that encompassed all of my artistry in a multifaceted way, make a living and have the ability to be anything since I’m always evolving creatively. I love immersing myself into art and find myself wanting to make art outside of hair, face or on canvas. My lip and cheek stains have this multi-purpose use that allows a person to be creative. They can be bold or translucent, worn on the lips or cheeks. They remind me of watercolors.

I love collaborating with other women and supporting local shops. I think supporting local is what helps a community thrive.
We couldn’t agree more! What are you most proud of?
Looking back at where I started 13 years ago to now. I’ve gone through a lot to be here, and I’m just proud of the accomplishments. There’s still so much opportunity for growth and so much more to do, but I definitely pause to allow myself to have a moment of realization that I work hard to make my dreams come true.
